Natural factors
- Continental Mediterranean climate: rainfall 350–400 mm, sunshine exceeding 2,800 hours per year, frequent frosts.
- Average altitude 750 m above sea level, with terrain predominantly between 700 and 900 m, on the Meseta Norte and in the Duero basin.
Product characteristics
- Reds: deep ruby colour, high tannin content and great structure; particularly well suited to ageing and exceptionally long-lived.
- Highly aromatic wines with a strong presence of ripe fruit, elevated alcohol, and moderately low acidity.
Terroir / wine link
- Fine sandy soils slowed the spread of phylloxera and have preserved century-old vineyards, whose age contributes to moderate, consistent yields.
