Terroir
Natural factors
- Soils dominated by pre-Cambrian and Archaic xistos, with granitic patches and, in limited areas, limestone, gneisses, and alluvium.
- Very hot summers and low rainfall promote full ripening, yielding concentrated wines with high alcohol levels.
- The region presents several microclimates, a determining factor of the Trás-os-Montes terroir.
Human factors
- Predominantly pre-Cambrian and Archaic xistos soils, with granitic patches and small areas of calcareous gneisses and alluvium.
- The region's centuries-old varieties combine with new plantings of noble grape varieties, imparting high structure and aromatic complexity to the wines.
Product characteristics
- Reds: deep, concentrated colour, intense and complex fruity aromas, present yet supple tannins, long and persistent finish.
- Whites: citrine colour, fresh and fruity aromas, well-balanced fixed acidity, moderately high alcohol levels.
