Human factors
- Granitic and xisto soils across the 3 sub-regions (Chaves, Planalto Mirandês, Valpaços), combined with centuries-old grape varieties.
- Very hot summers and summer drought favour full ripening, yielding concentrated wines with high alcohol levels.
Product characteristics
- Reds: ruby to garnet colour with brownish hues, vinous aromas with notes of red fruit and vanilla, soft tannins.
- White sparkling wines: fine bubble, floral and exotic fruity aromas evoking lychee.
