Terroir
Natural factors
- Soils formed both from calcareo-dolomitic disintegration and from porfido and granitic sands deposited by the Adige river.
- A zone spread across the glacial morainic amphitheatre of the Adige, filled with porfido and granitic sands carried down from the ranges flanking the Garda.
- Sloping soils with a high skeletal content, rich in calcareous rocks and mineral salts, with a significant siliceous component.
- Pre-Alpine mountain climate: cold winters, cool to temperate summers, with marked diurnal temperature swings in summer and autumn.
- Average annual rainfall between 850 and 1,000 mm, concentrated mainly in winter.
Human factors
- Viticulture documented since 1253: the 'Statuto di Peri' threatened penalties against anyone who damaged 'La Vinèa'.
- The name Schiava derives from an ancient training system in which the vine was tied to a stake, making it literally a 'slave'.
Product characteristics
- Valdadige Rosso is distinguished by a ruby colour with violet highlights, a vinous bouquet, and a harmonious, persistent structure.
- In the red blend, Enantio contributes structure and aroma, Merlot and Teroldego suppleness and a complex bouquet, and Schiava sapidity.
Terroir / wine link
- Calcareo-dolomitic skeletal soils and porfido/granitic sands provide rapid drainage and a high siliceous component that shapes the wine's sapidity and structure.
