- In the hills between Isera and Brentonico, basaltic substrates emerge at the surface, giving rise to distinctive hillside soils.
- The valley displays a classic glacial profile: steep slopes, sheer rock faces; vineyards ranging from 100 to 700 m above sea level.
- A climatic transition zone between alpine and pre-alpine influences; cold winters moderated by air currents from Lake Garda; 850–1,000 mm of rainfall per year.
Human factors
- Viticulture in Vallagarina is documented from the 7th–5th century B.C. (Paleo-Venetic/Etrusco-Rhaetic civilizations); a funerary stele dating to the 2nd–3rd century A.D., belonging to a Trentino wine merchant, was discovered in Passau.
Product characteristics
- White wines: color ranging from straw yellow to golden with greenish highlights, fruity profile, fresh and lively acidity; those from aromatic varieties add their characteristic varietal note.
- Red wines: ruby red of varying intensity, structured and suited to aging; with maturation the color may evolve toward orange-tinged reflections.
