Terroir
Natural factors
- The plain is divided into upper and lower zones by the spring-water (risorgive) belt: above it, fluvioglacial gravels; below, silts and clays.
- Soils originating from glacial-melt alluvial deposits, subsequently shaped by the Piave and Livenza rivers.
- Towards the south the texture becomes finer: sands increasing progressively to silts and argille in the risorgive belt.
- Temperate humid climate influenced by the Prealps and Dolomiti to the north, the Adriatic Sea and lagoons to the south, and a plain exposed to prevailing winds.
- Calcium-rich soils favour grapes with a distinctive aromatic character; the zone extends from the Treviso foothills to the Venetian coastline.
Product characteristics
- Reds: colour ranging from ruby to garnet; balanced, sapid palate, at times tannic, with good acidity.
- Young whites: pale straw-yellow with greenish highlights; floral aromas tending towards fruitiness.
Terroir / wine link
- Calcium-rich soils favour grapes with a distinctive aromatic character; variations in texture (ghiaie, sabbie, silts, argille) modulate fruity or herbaceous notes in the red wines.
