Terroir
Natural factors
- Hilly zone of the Banat Plain, with a maximum altitude of 150 m and intense sunshine throughout the year.
- Podzolic soils rich in iron oxides (ferruginous), found mainly at Izvin and Silagiu, imparting a bright red colour to red wines.
- South, south-west or south-east exposure on gentle slopes and plateaux, favouring sugar accumulation (over 13% vol. in Cabernet Franc and Traminer roz).
- Persistent morning fog in autumn at the foot of the Silagiu, Buziaș, Recaș, Herneacova, and Petrovaselo hills — a factor in the completion of the aromatic spectrum.
- Marked diurnal temperature range (cool late-August to early-September mornings versus high daytime temperatures) at Silagiu and Jamu Mare, favouring the accumulation of flavonoids and terpenes.
Product characteristics
- The ferruginous soils of Izvin and Silagiu impart a bright red colour and finesse to red wines (Novac, Pinot noir, Merlot, Cadarcă).
- Autumn fog at the foot of the hills completes the aromatic spectrum in Sauvignon, Riesling de Rhin, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc.
Terroir / wine link
