Principal grape varieties

Terroir

• The hilly zone of the Banat Plain reaches a maximum elevation of 150 m, with intense sunshine throughout the year, a factor considered the defining natural characteristic of the geographical area.
• The soils of the zone are podzolic, rich in iron oxides and trace elements, and the vineyards are situated mainly on gentle slopes and plateaux.
• The vineyards benefit from a southern, south-western, or south-eastern aspect.
• Persistent morning fog in autumn is a feature at the foot of the hills of Silagiu, Buziaș, Recaș, Herneacova, and Petrovaselo.
• Ferruginous soils are found in the communes of Izvin and Silagiu.

• Wines produced on ferruginous soils display a bright ruby colour and are refined, with a markedly distinctive personality.
• The varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cadarcă, and Mustoasă de Măderat impress with medium-to-high acidity, full body, a characteristic herbaceous palate, hints of spice, wild berries, and woody notes on ageing.

• The minerality of the soils of Recaș and Petrovaselo is reflected in the flavour of the varieties Rhine Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon.
