Natural factors

The 4 sub-zones are structured around 6 rivers: the Alberche, Guadarrama, Jarama, and Tajo define their natural boundaries.
Arganda: calcareous soils and gypsiferous marls (basic pH); Navalcarnero: siliceous soils across rolling farmland (acidic pH); San Martín: granitic soils on hillside slopes.
Continental Mediterranean climate: vineyards between 480 and 1,000 m elevation, 658 mm of annual rainfall, and temperatures ranging from –17 °C to 40 °C.
El Molar features soils of highly varied composition, making it a geological compendium of the other three sub-zones.

Human factors
